Arsenal had more open chances to win their game against Manchester United on Monday night but didn’t take them and will be disappointed to have picked just a point in this clash. They will be going to the Thursday Europa League clash with Standard Liege hoping to correct both the defensive and attacking shortcomings they had in the game. The draw just about served the sixth unbeaten match for Arsenal and while they have been a bit unconvincing, they have put in enough to avoid losing matches but clearly they have room for improvement. Standard Liege have also enjoyed a good run in their recent matches, and come to this clash on a run of five unbeaten matches. They drew in their last game, against Sporting Charleroi and they will be aware that here they meet a superior opponent. They have scored two or more in seven of their last 10 matches and facing a team that is well endowed in attack, they will hope to carry this form as well. Just like Arsenal, Standard Liege also won their opening Group F clash, beating Vitoria Guimaraes 2 – 0 but they have just six wins in their last 15 Europa League matches stretching back to 2015. They have managed three straight clean sheets in the Europa League ahead of this game and will be hoping to stretch that against a team that is well endowed in attack. It has not been very good for Standard Liege away from home though; in their last four matches they have no win. They have actually managed just two wins in the last 14 away matches in Europa League. These two sides have met twice before, in the Champions League, and Arsenal won both home and away.
