Arsenal will host Chelsea in the second week of the Premier League in what could pass as a lopsided affair, with Chelsea the firm favorites to bag a win at the Emirates. The two sides had contrasting fortunes on the opening week – Chelsea thrashing Crystal Palace 3-0 as Arsenal got whipped 2-0 by newly promoted Brentford. Arsenal were poor in all aspects against Brentford and the fact that they couldn’t field their best team didn’t help. Senior players Alex Lacazette and skipper Pierre Emerick Aubameyang were said to be ill, while Gabriel Magalhaes and Thomas Partey are out injured. In the end Arsenal went a fifth game without a win, having lost four, and it piles pressure on the club’s hierarchy, with the transfer window edging towards closure. The club looks set to secure the signatures of Martin Odegaard and Aaron Ramsdale but they may not be ready for this game. The team has failed to score in its last two matches, and has no clean sheet in the last five. In each of four of the last five matches, they’ve conceded two goals and only managed to score twice in one of the five matches. Arsenal have trailed in each of their last five matches and have conceded in both halves in four of their last five matches.

Somehow, Arsenal managed to beat Chelsea home and away last season, despite it going down as their poorest campaign in over two decades. Chelsea will be looking to avoid a repeat of that and they’ve looked good in the run up to this game. The Blues are unbeaten in their last six matches, winning four, and in that run, they’ve won the Champions League and UEFA Super Cup. A solid side defensively, they have added to their attacking ranks Romelu Lukaku, who comes from a great season in Italy and he could be available for this game. For a side that has scored two or more goals in four of their last five matches, taking on Arsenal, who haven’t been really great defensively is almost an assurance of scoring. Chelsea have scored in both halves in three of their last four matches and get here with three straight away wins and four in the last five.
