by Steve Ashfield in Carabao Cup Predictions
Not since 1993 have Arsenal won the EFL Cup. They did reach the semi-finals last season and will make it into the last eight this term if they can beat Brighton and Hove Albion at home on Wednesday evening. Here's our match prediction.
Arsenal lost to eventual winners Newcastle last season but as usual this competition isn't at the top of their priority list. They will make several changes for this game as will their opponents. Concentrating on the Premier League is the top priority for Arteta.
Brighton and Hove Albion went to the Emirates in the 2021-22 season and knocked the Gunners out of the Carabao Cup. They are having an inconsistent season and are 13th in the Premier League, ten points behind the Gunners. They don't have a great record in this competition and last reached the quarter-finals in the 1978-79 season. They will make changes but will go all out to make the last eight.

Arsenal - Brighton: Form Analysis
These two clubs had contrasting weekends. Arsenal stretched their lead at the top of the Premier League to four points after beating Crystal Palace 1-0 at home. They will not be fielding such a strong starting line-up for this Carabao Cup tie against Brighton and Hove Albion.
Because of their European commitments, Arsenal have only played one game to reach the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. That saw the Gunners get a comfortable 2-0 win away at Port Vale. They come into this game seeking an eighth straight league and cup win.
Lack of consistency from the Seagulls.
Brighton and Hove Albion lack consistency this season. There have been some impressive performances, including beating Manchester City at home and winning away at Chelsea. On the flip side, the Seagulls have also lost to Everton, Bournemouth and at the weekend were beaten 4-2.
They score on a regular basis, especially in this competition.. Two away games against Oxford and Barnsley were both won 6-0. This is of course going to be a lot tougher for them and the weekend saw them concede four at Old Trafford.

Arsenal & Brighton Squad Analysis
Arsenal are four points clear at the top of the Premier League but they will make several changes for this Carabao Cup fourth round tie. That's nothing new for them and several fringe players such as Nwaneri, Lewis-Skelly and Mosquera started in round three away at Port Vale.
Changes aplenty for the Gunners.
Most of their usual starting line-up were on the subs bench, ready to come on if needed but the Gunners were comfortable 2-0 winners. A similar tactic is likely to be employed by Arteta for this match.
Brighton aren't playing in Europe this season and that may influence their team selection for this cup tie. The Carabao Cup represents one of their best chances to qualify for European competition next season so a not so weakened line-up may be selected.
Influential midfielder Kaoru Mitoma could be on the bench for this game. Joel Veltman and Brajan Gruda may also be back in the squad. James Milner could be in the starting line-up for Brighton.

Our Arsenal vs Brighton Prediction
Arsenal have a great record in the FA Cup but are not so impressive in the Carabao Cup. They had a comfortable 2-0 win at Port Vale in their only match so far but will be fielding a side very different from the one that currently tops the Premier League.
Brighton are an inconsistent side who are capable of scoring lots of goals but struggle at the back. They do have a good record playing away at the Emirates and have previously beaten Arsenal in this competition. Our Arsenal v Brighton prediction is more than 2.5 goals.
