Leaders Argentina and eighth-place Chile face off for the seventh match of the CONMEBOL 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign. Let’s take a closer look at the statistics and offer up our prediction for this matchup between La Albiceleste and La Roja.

Hosts Argentina will be looking to increase their lead atop the standings, where their five wins from six matches sees them two points ahead of second-place Uruguay.

This is the first time that the current World Cup holders are taking to the field since successfully defending their Copa America crown back in July. A 1-0 extra time win over Colombia, courtesy of a Lautaro Martinez strike, means that Argentina’s winning rampage continues.

Chile, who have failed to qualify for the past two World Cups, have some work to do as they sit eighth in the standings. They do, however, sit even on points with Paraguay for seventh-place, which grants an intercontinental playoff for the chance to go to the 2026 World Cup.

A disappointing Copa America performance by La Roja saw them eliminated in the group stage after failing to score a single goal. That tournament was preceded by a 1-0 World Cup qualifying away defeat to Ecuador which sparked a change in manager.
