Anna Bondar will take on fellow unseeded player Jaqueline Cristian in the first round of the 2024 China Open. We have a prediction for the match.

Cristian has the head-to-head advantage in this fixture and will seek another win to set up a second-round battle with Barbora Krejcikova. Bondar lost her last two matches and has just one win in her last four outings.

As she has twice defeated Cristian in their three previous meetings, she will fancy her chances on her return to Beijing. The Hungarian lost in the first round of the Thailand Open in her last match.

A winner of three ITF and one challenger title so far, Bondar has compiled a strong 44-26 record. She has however not replicated her success in the lower tiers at tour level.

Only three times has she won her opening round match at a tour event. The Iasi quarter-finalist is currently placed 88th in the live ranking.

Jaqueline Cristian defeated Bondar the last time they met, two years ago at the Billie Jean Cup. She will be thinking of this as she plots to get back to winning ways after a recent dip in form.

The Romanian has lost her last four matches, the last three on hard courts. She was defeated in the first round in Monastir by eventual champion Sonay Kartal in her last court appearance.

That was her 10th defeat on hard courts this year. Cristian, an above-average hard-court player, has managed just one win on the surface this year. She has, nonetheless, had a strong season despite her hard-court struggles.

Currently placed 77th in the live ranking, Cristian has managed 24 wins while predominantly competing in the tour. This has resulted in one semi-final finish and three quarter-final runs.
