A crucial bottom-half battle in the PSL will play out this week when AmaZulu face off against Royal AM on Friday afternoon. The hosts are currently tenth in the league standings, while the visitors are 13th. AmaZulu have laid a solid foundation over the first half of the league campaign and will be hoping to build on that as we enter the second half of the season. They have taken 19 points in their first 15 matches and are nine points clear of Richards Bay in the relegation playoff spot. The Heroes earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw against third-placed Cape Town City last weekend, taking their recent record to two wins, two draws and two losses in their last six matches. One of the major issues Amazulu have faced this term has been their inability to turn one point into three. They have drawn seven matches already this season, which is the most of any side in the top flight. On the positive, though, the hosts do have one of the best defensive records, with just 12 goals conceded. AmaZulu are the bookmaker's favourite in this one.
Meanwhile, after failing to win a single league match between September and October, Royal AM have been much improved coming into this match. They played out a stalemate against Moroka Swallows last weekend, which took them to three matches unbeaten following a 2-1 win over Cape Town Spurs and a 3-2 victory over Richards Bay earlier this month. Over their last five league games, Royal AM have only lost to Cape Town City while they have earned an impressive ten points over that period. Following last week’s draw, the visitors are now on 18 points, and with the league table still being very compact, a win here could see them propelled into the top half of the standings. With their solid recent form, Royal AM will be hoping to improve their away record, which currently reads as two wins, one draw and four losses in seven outings this term. Still, they are unbeaten in their last seven meetings against this opponent (W2 D5 L0) and cannot be ruled out of this contest just yet.
