Algeria will continue their quest for a return to the apex of African football with a home match against Niger in the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers. Playing in Group F, Algeria will seek a good start to 2023 in a pool that also has Uganda and Tanzania. They have six points, topping the group ahead of Niger who have two points. The Desert Foxes, immediate former African champions, will be the favorites to win this group. They will be happy to welcome their foreign based stars after losing the CHAN final, a preserve of locally based players, to Senegal in February. In their last 10 matches in AFCON qualification, Algeria have not lost, and they come into this one with three straight clean sheets. They have three straight wins in AFCON qualification matches and have scored at least twice in each of the last five. Three of their last five matches in the qualifiers have produced over 2.5 goals while they have four straight home wins in AFCON qualification matches.

Niger will be going back to Algeria after participating in the CHAN competition, where they met Algeria and suffered a 5-0 defeat. Most of the players who faced Algeria’s home based players will be in action against an even tougher Algerian side. This will be a tough one for Niger, who come into the game on two straight losses, with six goals conceded. In AFCON qualification, Niger have won just two of their last 10 matches, and they come into this one having failed to win any of the last five. They’ve failed to score in three of their last five AFCON qualification matches and have conceded three goals in two of the five matches, while they have just one clean sheet in five. This will be the seventh meeting in the history of the two sides and Algeria have won each of the first six.
