Novak Djokovic returns to action after his semi-final defeat at the French Open. He will get his Wimbledon campaign underway against Frenchman Alexandre Muller. The two clash for only the second match in their careers. The winner here will take on Daniel Evans or Jay Clark, and below we have a prediction.

Muller is an outright underdog here, having fallen in each of the last four outings. He lost his only meeting with Djokovic at the US Open in 2023.

The world No. 41 failed to win more than a match in his last three events. He exited at the first hurdle in Roland Garros, Halle, and most recently Mallorca. Muller has nine losses in 11 matches against top 10 players.

The opening round at Wimbledon should offer much solace to Djokovic, who is having a tough season by his standards. After falling to world No. 1 Jannik Sinner at Roland Garros, Djokovic opted to rest and not go straight into the grass season.

He did play an exhibition match against Karen Khachanov, though, and lost in straights on grass at Hurlingham. In the first week the Serbian is set for manageable draws, which will be welcome, given his struggles.

A win here will mean he faces one of the wildcards. Before the emergence of Carlos Alcaraz, Djokovic had bagged four straight Wimbledon titles. This season he’s fighting for his eighth.
