Tenth seed Grigor Dimitrov begins his French Open campaign with a first-round showdown with unseeded Aleksandar Kovacevic. The winner will then take on Mikhail Kukushkin or Fabian Marozsan next. Aleksandar Kovacevic is playing in the main draw at Roland Garros for a second straight year. He will hope this time around he records a win. The American lost in the first round in his debut last year. Kovacevic is coming off a first-round exit in Geneva as a qualifier. This has been the story of his season so far. Struggling for consistency, Kovacevic has suffered most of his losses this year in the opening round of an event. Nine times in 15 tournaments he has been bundled out in the first round. The Los Cabos quarter-finalist begins in Paris up one place to 67th in the live ranking.

Grigor Dimitrov is back at Roland Garros for the 13th successive season. Six times in the last seven years, he has won his opening round match and qualified for at least the third round. Last year, he produced a fourth-round finish equalling his best-ever result here. A two-time Grand Slam semi-finalist, Dimitrov is having a superb season. He has won 24 of 32 matches, recording three finals and winning one title in Brisbane. The highlight of his season however is his runner-up finish in Miami. His best result at the event and only his third final at ATP Masters 1000 level. He eliminated three top 10 players including world number three and former Miami champion Carlos Alcaraz. The current world number 10 is coming off a third-round finish in Rome.
