The Spanish Primera Liga continues this weekend with the Basque Derby; Alaves hosting Real Sociedad, among the matches lined up. Both sides have a lot to play for; Alaves getting to the game placed 18th with 15 points while Real Sociedad are sixth with 29 points. Alaves are winless in their last five matches and haven’t managed a league win in six. They go into this game with four defeats in the last five league matches and have no clean sheet the last eight league games. In four of the last five, they’ve conceded at least two goals and go to this game on a really weak footing. The advantage they will have on their opponents though, is that they have no new reported injuries or positive Covid-19 cases. They are also playing at home, where they have collected seven points from the last four matches and should be confident of beating the visitors.

Real Sociedad at one point seemed like serious title contenders, and though the potential is still there, their recent form betrays such thought. They are a point off the top four and while this should be a good place, a run of five winless matches in the league is a big blow to their confidence. Real Sociedad are almost going two months without a win in the league; their last was in the opening week of November. Two wins in the cup games, one in Copa Del Rey and one in the Europa League are what they can possibly point to for encouragement. The team has scored just one goal in the last five matches and go to this game without their lead scorer Mikel Oyarzabal who is suspended. Alex Isak, if fit, will be the man leading the attack but he too has been misfiring this season, with just four goals in 15 matches. A Covid-19 outbreak at the team makes things worse and this being an away game will mean the squad is seriously depleted.
