This Wednesday evening fixture is a Champions League First Round Qualifying second leg encounter with honours even from the opening meeting.  Alshakert were pleased to secure a 2-2 draw in Wales thanks to a Davis Khurtsidze brace and will be confident with the game taking place at their own Stadion Nairi in Armenia. Connah’s Quay will be disappointed they could not make home advantage pay but grateful that away goals no longer count in this competition.

Alashkert qualified for the tournament by winning the Armenian top league and it marked their fourth domestic victory since 2015/16.  They have qualified for this tournament three times previously and their best result has been to make the Second qualifying round.  At home, they have won twice in this competition, drawn once and lost two with those defeats coming to experienced sides in Celtic and BATE.

Connah’s Quay qualified for the tournament by winning their domestic league for the very first time.  It is though the second time they have reached the Champions League going last time to Sarajevo in their only game played.  The Welsh outfit have lost four of their last five on the road in Europe with the sole victory coming against Kilmarnock.
