Ajax look to put breathing space between themselves and Atalanta in Group D of the UEFA Champions League when they welcome Danish side FC Midtjylland to the Amsterdam Arena on Wednesday night. Second in the group with four points from their opening three games, Ajax are ahead of third-placed Atalanta on goal difference and trail leaders Liverpool by five points. Midtjylland, bottom of the group, are yet to pick up a point. The reverse fixture between these teams saw Ajax record a 2-1 win in Denmark, all three goals being scored in the opening 20 minutes. After losing to Liverpool and drawing with Atalanta, it was Ajax's first win of the group stage. While Midtjylland were no better off after that clash with Ajax, manager Brian Priske will be encouraged by his side's first goal coupled with their closest scoreline of the UCL campaign. The three domestic matches that Midtjylland have played since have all resulted in victory, the last two of which were away from home. It leaves them top of the Danish Superliga after nine games. Yet, neither of Midtjylland's opponents were close to the calibre of Ajax, who are also top of their domestic league.

The Dutch giants won 5-0 at home to Heracles at the weekend, bringing their goal difference to an absurd +32 after nine games. They are undefeated in six matches in all competitions, hitting at least three goals in four of those. They have won five of their six home games this season, the only slip-up coming in a narrow 1-0 defeat to Premier League champions Liverpool. Ajax were winning at both half-time and full-time in those five home successes. We see another such victory incoming.
