There's a big pre-season friendly in Amsterdam this Thursday as Ajax host Celtic in a clash between two former European Champions. New Ajax manager John Heitinga has overseen a good start for de Godenzonen, with three wins and a draw in five pre-season games but they face Brendan Rodgers' Hoops who have four out of five wins in their pre-season too. Ajax had a disastrous finish to their league campaign, winning just one of their last five games to hand the league title to PSV by a single point. Now with a new manager in place, they will seek to improve on that second-place finish. Celtic won the Scottish Premiership comfortably, but lost to Aberdeen in thee Cup Final and Brendan Rodgers knows expectations remain high this season.
Since taking over, John Heitinga has overseen a solid pre-season for his team. A 6-3 win over SPL side Hibs was followed by a 1-1 draw with AGF Aarhus and then came a 2-1 win over PAOK Saloniki and a 3-2 win over KV Mechelen. All those matches being played at home.
Celtic have played one more pre-season game. They began with two away wins 1-0 at Queens Park and then 2-1 at Cork City. They then lost 3-2 to Estrele Amadora in Portugal before a superb 2-0 win away to Sporting Lisbon. They then beat a youthful Newcastle United side 4-0 last weekend.
