Dutch giants Ajax will welcome German side Borussia Dortmund in a battle for top spot in Group C of the UEFA Champions League on Match Day 3. The two are both on six points but Ajax are top courtesy of a better goal difference. The Dutch recovered from the unexpected loss to Utretch with a 2-0 away win over Heerenveen. That was their fourth clean sheet in five matches and they’ve failed to score in just one of the five matches. Ajax have conceded one goal in five matches and scored 12. In just their two opening matches in this group, they have seven goals and conceded just one but both teams have scored in four of their last seven Champions League games. At home, Ajax do not have a very impressive run; they have five wins and five losses in the last 10 Champions League matches there and they’ve failed to score in four of the last six. The last time these two sides met was in 2012; Ajax lost in both meetings.

Dortmund have their talisman Erling Haaland back to full fitness, and on his return, scored two goals in the 3-1 win over Mainz. He has 13 goals already this season and will be a key player to focus on here. Dortmund’s biggest worries are based in defence and it won’t help facing this Ajax side that has been scoring a lot. They have one clean sheet in 11 matches and scored two or more in six of the last eight. In the Champions League, Dortmund have scored two or more goals in seven of the last 11. They have four wins in five away matches in the Champions League and scored two or more in four of their last five, though they’ve managed just one clean sheet in the last five.
