No team is eliminated as yet in Group B of the Copa America 2021, but at the end of it, one of Peru, Ecuador and Venezuela will be dumped out. Venezuela and Peru face off in what could be the decider here. Peru have four points, and are in third place while Venezuela, on two points, trail in the group. Venezuela came from down twice to draw 2-2 with Ecuador in the last game, a result that kept their hopes alive in this competition and a win here will be enough to take them through to the quarters. A win will be an improvement on the last five matches, having gone winless in that run. They have two wins only in the last 10 matches and five losses in the process, while they’ve failed to score in six. Three times in the last five matches, they’ve conceded two or more goals.

Peru’s turnaround in this competition came in the surprise win over Colombia. An own goal from Yerry Mina saw Peru bank three points and they would later draw 2-2 with Ecuador. At 2-0 down going to the break in the Ecuador game, they seemed dead but two goals early in the second half saw them stay alive in this group. They just need to avoid defeat here to ensure they get to the quarters, but they are still struggling defensively, with no clean sheet in their last 12 matches. Venezuela have nothing more to lose so they’ll throw all at Peru hoping to win, and it means Peru have to be both clinical in attack to utilize the spaces left, and sturdy in defence to deal with the expected attacks. In seven of their last 10 matches, they’ve conceded two or more goals and an improvement will be key here.
