Sporting Lisbon’s title defence has started on a high, and they’ve already won the season opening Super Cup, after beating Braga. They are set to host Belenenses in their third league game and while they have already taken the lead with six points, Belenenses are yet to register a point. Sporting have won each of their last six matches and have 10 wins in the last 11 games while in each of their last seven, they’ve scored two or more goals. With five clean sheets in the last 10 matches, and their scoring run, Sporting are rightly the favorites going to this game. They are coming from a 2-1 win over Braga, a game they finished with 10 men after Matheus Reis was sent off in the 80th minute. The two goals scored there mean Sporting have now scored in each of their last 18 matches. They have one loss only in the 36 league matches.

Belenenses on the other hand, go to this game winless in their last seven matches. They have failed to score in five of the seven and head to this clash on four straight losses. Two clean sheets in their last 10 matches and having conceded two or more goals in five of their last 10 matches doesn’t place Belenenses on a very good footing here. They will be facing the best team in Portugal at the moment and coming from two losses in their opening two games leaves them as the underdogs. Belenenses are coming from a 2-1 home loss to Maritimo and it doesn’t look like it will get better here, having gone winless in the last four away matches, and failed to score in any of them. In their last meeting with Sporting, the game ended in a 2-2 draw, but they have four losses in five previous meetings.
