Two of the league’s worst teams will see their seasons come to an end on Sunday as the 14th-place San Antonio Spurs play host to the 15th-place Detroit Pistons. For San Antonio, the only thing they have left to play for in this final game is to not finish as the Western Conference’s worst team. They currently hold an identical 20-61 record with the Portland Trail Blazers in 15th. The Spurs have been in good form as of late and pulled off a fantastic come-from-behind 121-120 win over defending champions Denver on Friday. With just four seconds left on the clock, Devonte Graham raced down the court and was able to hit a euro-step floater with less than a second remaining to seal the deal. It marked San Antonio’s sixth win in their last 10 games, with four of those six victories coming against teams with winning records.

The Pistons have nothing left on the line as their fate has already been sealed. Detroit will finish the 2023/24 campaign as the worst team in the NBA. The visitors have a 14-67 record which has them sitting last in the Eastern Conference. They were, at least, able to grab a 107-89 away win over the Mavericks in their latest outing on Friday, although Dallas were without both Luka and Kyrie. Still, the win snapped a five-game losing streak for Detroit and they’ll now look to end the year on a positive two-game winning streak, something which they have achieved on only three other occasions this season. The Pistons will be without star point guard Cade Cunningham as the 22-year-old continues to miss out due to “left-knee management”. It’s unlikely the visitors risk their franchise player on a meaningless game to close out the campaign.
