Second seed Aryna Sabalenka will play 32nd seed Anhelina Kalinina next at the Miami Open. They will battle in the third round with the winner taking on either Greet Minnen or Yulia Putintseva next. Anhelina Kalinina came from a set down to defeat former Miami finalist Caroline Wozniacki in the last round. The showdown lasted well over three hours and marked Kalinina’s sixth win of the season. The Ukrainian has struggled this season and currently has lost two more matches than she has won. Recently however she has seen an upturn in fortunes with four of her wins coming in her last six outings. She is now one win away from equaling her best-ever result here, achieved in her debut two seasons ago. The 27-year-old has moved four places to 32nd in the live ranking.

Aryna Sabalenka defeated Paula Badosa in straight sets in her opening-round match. It was a strong and admirable performance given what she is currently going through. The world number two is mourning the death of her partner who passed away just days before her first match here. She has chosen to continue with the tournament and is one of the heavy favourites to emerge champion. Sabalenka has again been one of the top performers in the WTA and so far has won 14 of 17 matches. She retained her title at the Australian Open and was also a runner-up in Brisbane. Sabaleka has however lost twice in her last four fixtures. She suffered a shock fourth-round elimination at Indian Wells right before arriving in Miami where she is a two-time quarterfinalist.
