Test Match - USA vs England: A renewal of acquaintances
by Thobelani Moyo | by Thobelani Moyo

In preparation for the Pacific Nations Cup that is set to take place next month, the USA enters their test match against England with hopes of recovering from their poor performance last time out against Spain. However, it has been a disastrous showing against the Red Roses, as they've lost seven consecutive matches.
Can the USA secure a win in front of their home crowd, or will they be victims of another dreadful performance that'll lead to defeat?
USA seeking redemption after recent setback
The USA comes into this match against England seeking to get back to the winning column after their four-match winning streak in Test matches was ended by a disappointing defeat to Spain last time out at the American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte.
It was certainly a bad day at the office, from lightning in the area delaying the start of the game for two hours to the Eagles' shaky performance, which was shaky from the get-go. They had to orchestrate a comeback, which at the end of the day was fruitless.
Down by 21 in the opening 23 minutes, they managed to fight back and were 20-21 in the 51st minute. However, that was not enough to see them slump to a 20-31 defeat on home soil. After that defeat, the Eagles now find themselves ranked 16th in the World Rugby ranking.
For Spain, their opponents in that match, it was a historic moment for them as they clinched their first-ever victory between the two sides in six all-time meetings.
England is aiming to build on their winning streak
England has been a sight for sore eyes. Since their narrow defeat to Ireland in the first round of the Six Nations on February 1, they have been flying off the blocks thanks to their impressive showing.
The Red Roses head to Washington, D.C., boasting a six-match winning streak. They are out to extend that run to seven games when they take on the USA. After this tussle, the Red Roses will see the mid-year Test tour of the Americas chapter closed. Steve Borthwick's charges enter this match in high spirits after completing a series sweep over Argentina. In the first test series, they romped to an emphatic 35-12 despite being without a majority of their key players because of the British & Irish Lions tour. This was followed by a 17-22 victory. It was nothing but a defensive masterclass, a similar showing they'll want to implement against the USA.
The Red Roses are not intimidated by the presence of the USA despite being on their home turf. This is the second time they've traveled to the USA. The first time was in 2001 when they won 48-19. That marked their 11th consecutive Test victory, which was at the time a stupendous achievement. However, this marks the eighth meeting between them and the USA. So far, they've won seven consecutive matches in this fixture and are eyeing an eighth.
