Arsenal and Manchester City are set to lock horns at Wembley Stadium in the EFL Cup final. Both sides will aim to lift their first major trophy of the season. The North London outfit last won the trophy in 1993, while Pep Guardiola's Manchester City are out to clinch their ninth silverware in this tournament.

The Gunners are out to rewrite history

So far, it has been a highly successful season for Arsenal, who are on the verge of securing a historic quadruple. For now, the focus is on the EFL Cup, where they aim to clinch their first silverware.

The Gunners are no strangers to this competition, and neither is head coach Mikel Arteta, who is set to take charge of his 23rd game in this tournament. His record is quite impressive with 15 wins, one draw, and six defeats in 22 games.

However, the prestigious silverware has eluded him, and he is aiming to become the second head coach in the club's history to lift the silverware. The first to achieve this feat was George Graham in 1987 and 1993.

Mikel Arteta has been to Wembley Stadium four times as a head coach and has yet to lose a game.

Arsenal defeated the likes of Port Vale, Brighton & Hove Albion, Crystal Palace, and Chelsea to reach their ninth EFL Cup final at Wembley. This also marks their first appearance at this stage since the 2017-18 season.

Their opponents at that time were none other than Manchester City. Unfortunately, they suffered a 3-0 defeat. They also faced this opponent in the 2020-21 season and lost 4-1 in the quarter-finals. So this matchup carries a clear sense of vendetta.

Can they make this chapter one of redemption? See what our experts have to say in our Arsenal vs Manchester City prediction for more insights into the game.

Confidence is definitely at a high for the North London side, who come into this crucial encounter unbeaten in their last 14 matches across all competitions.

This is the Citizens' only shot at redemption

The dominance that once defined Manchester City has eluded them this campaign. Their chances of clinching the Premier League title seem to be slipping further out of reach as they are nine points behind league leaders Arsenal.

Pep Guardiola's side was also knocked out of the UEFA Champions League by Real Madrid in the Round of 16, losing 5-1 on aggregate. It is the same side that has eliminated them in four of their last five seasons.

The EFL Cup presents a perfect opportunity to redeem themselves. The Citizens are the second-best team in this competition, having lifted the trophy in eight of their last nine appearances. For Guardiola, success here would mean becoming the first head coach to win this tournament five times.

They last won in 2021, defeating Tottenham Hotspur 1-0. It was their fourth consecutive trophy, having beaten the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, and Aston Villa in the previous editions.

The mood in the Manchester City camp is one of growing frustration as they've failed to win their last three matches across all competitions.

Player to watch: Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland is far from being his best this season. However, the Norwegian international leads the scoring charts in the Premier League with 22 goals scored.

He is expected to play a major role in this upcoming encounter against Arsenal. It has been nothing but fond memories as he has scored in his last three matches against this opponent and will be itching to get his name on the scoresheet.

It must be mentioned that he has failed to score in his last six appearances in this tournament. If successful, it would mark a significant milestone for him.
