27th seed Tallon Griekspoor bids to reach the third round at Indian Wells for the second year in a row. To achieve that feat in this Masters 1000 tournament he has to beat unseeded Yannick Hanfmann. This is an outdoor hard court event and the winner will take on either sixth seed Alexander Zverev or unseeded Christopher O'Connell in the last 32. Griekspoor reached the third round of the Australian Open this year and followed that up with a couple of wins in the Davis Cup against Switzerland. Back in his native Netherlands he made it to the last four of the Rotterdam indoor hard court tournament and most recently lost in the last 16 in Dubai to Alexander Bublik.

Yannick Hanfmann beat Pedro Cachin in the first round of this tournament. His opponent has now lost all seven of his matches this year but took Hanfmann to a final set that went to a tie-break. Hanfmann was in 57th position in the latest ATP rankings but up four places in the live list after that not too impressive first round victory. He's yet to get past the last 16 of a hard court tournament this year and lost in the first round of the Australian Open to Gael Monfils. Recent weeks have seen him playing the South American clay court season. His best performance there was a quarter final in Cordoba but lost three of his last four matches. He does lead Griekspoor 2-0 in previous meetings but both were in Challenger Tour clay court events and the most recent three years ago. We tip Griekspoor to win this match.
