Xinyu Gao is seeking to win only her second match in the main draw at a tour event. Her first main draw victory was achieved last month in Hua Hin.
The Chinese player, who has won three ITF titles so far this season, defeated Carol Zhao in straight sets in her final qualifier. She has now won 35 matches and moved to 166th in the live ranking.
Suzan Lamens had an incredible run in Osaka a fortnight ago and will hope to replicate that here. The Dutchwoman, fighting against the odds, battled as a qualifier to claim the Tokyo Open. That was her maiden tour title and she secured the victory with only one set lost in seven matches.
Lamens didn’t, however, have a similar impact in Guangzhou last time out as she was eliminated in the first round. In addition to her crown in Osaka, Lamens has also claimed titles in the ITF and Challenger circuits.
