We launch into Matchday 23 of the Premier League with a lively lunchtime kickoff at the London Stadium, where West Ham United will be playing host to Sunderland on Saturday. The Hammers are 18th in the league standings, while the Blacks Cats are in ninth place after 22 games. Check out our match prediction below!
Irons’ fans will be feeling a lot better after seeing their side bring an end to their 10-match winless run in the top flight last weekend. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side is still the first team below the dotted line, but they are now up to 17 points, four behind his former club Nottingham Forest and safety.
Meanwhile, Sunderland have defied all expectations this season. Not only are they 16 points clear of the relegation zone, but they are also still firmly in the race for European qualification, currently only three points off fourth-placed Liverpool. Both these sides are carrying momentum from last week’s results - let’s get into the key stats at play in this one!

West Ham - Sunderland: Form Analysis
After securing their spot in the fourth round of the FA Cup by beating Queens Park Rangers, West Ham followed up with an against-the-odds 2-1 victory over cross-town rivals Spurs last weekend.
That result marked the Irons’ first EPL victory since defeating Burnley back in November, and it was just the second time they conceded fewer than two goals in a Prem match since mid-December.
The Hammers will now be hoping to end their winless league run at home, which includes four losses and a draw in their last five at the London Stadium. However, they have not kept a single clean sheet at this venue all season.
West Ham have not lost an EPL home game against this opponent since May 2011!
Meanwhile, Sunderland moved back into the top half of the league standings last weekend when they came back from a goal down to beat Crystal Palace 2-1 at the Stadium of Light.
Notably, the Black Cats have now picked up 16 points from losing positions in the top flight this season, with only Aston Villa gaining more (18). However, they have not won back-to-back Prem matches since last October.
The visitors are hoping to do the double over West Ham this weekend, but they are winless in their last six away league games (D3 L3) and failed to score in three of their last four on the road.

West Ham & Sunderland Squad Analysis
Crysencio Summerville opened his account for the season in the victory over QPR and followed up with another goal last weekend against Spurs, who are now interested in signing him this month.
Callum Wilson came off the bench to net the winner against the Lilywhites, and it will be interesting to see if Santo gives him a start here ahead of new arrival Valentin Castellanos.
Lucas Paqueta missed the match against Spurs with an apparent back injury, but several reports suggest that he is trying to force a move to Flamengo. Lukasz Fabianski is the only absentee for the hosts, with El Hadji Malick Diouf now back from the AFCON.
Enzo Le Fee has recorded three goal contributions in his last four games for Sunderland!
The Frenchman started the comeback against Palace last week by cancelling out Yeremy Pino’s opener, and scored the leveller against Everton in the FA Cup before converting his spot-kick in the shootout.
Romaine Mundle seemed to pick up a slight knock at Selhurst Park last weekend, and he could be rested for this one, with Chemsdine Talbi and Habib Diarra both now back from the AFCON.
Bertrand Traore and Arthur Masuaku will not feature for the visitors in this match due to injury, while Ajibola Alese is on the road to recovery and featured for the Under-21s against Newcastle last week.
