West Ham vs Liverpool Prediction & Betting Tips - Premier League

by Ian John | in Premier League Prediction

West Ham United host Liverpool on Saturday lunchtime (12.30pm Kick Off) in a clash between two Premier League teams very much out-of-sorts at present. West Ham's European hopes depend on them having a strong finish to the season, in the hope of catching and passing Newcastle and Manchester United in the table. Meanwhile, visitors Liverpool are seeing their title hopes fading fast after just one win in their last four Premier League games. Anything less than a win here will make it almost impossible for Jurgen Klopp's team to claim the title.

West Ham - Liverpool: Form Analysis

Neither West Ham or Liverpool come into this game in particularly good form, despite being eighth and third in the Premier League table respectively. The home side have won just one of their last seven games, a 2-1 win away to Wolves and they have lost both of their last two matches, including a 5-2 midweek drubbing at London rivals Crystal Palace. Their recent home form has been a real concern for Eagles fans with just one win in their last eight home games, alongside five draws and two defeats. That form has seen them remain in 8th spot in the Premier League and they have not been able to haul in Newcastle or Manchester United above them in the table. Their recent form against Liverpool also isn't great with just one win in their last 16 games against the Reds. That includes just two draws and 13 defeats in that run of matches.

Liverpool's title hopes potentially received a fatal blow in their 2-0 defeat against Everton in midweek. That was the first game away from home this season that Liverpool failed to score. However, it was their second Premier League defeat in three games against teams in the bottom half of the table. The Reds remain second at the time of writing but will likely be third in the table by the time this game takes place. That's if Man City pick up a point or better against Brighton on Thursday. The Reds misfiring attack has been their issue in recent weeks, and their tendency to concede first in games has haunted them all season long. The Reds must win all four of their remaining games and hope both Arsenal and Manchester City slip up repeatedly to win the league. That looks incredibly unlikely given the form of the other two challengers, compared to Liverpool's most recent performances.

West Ham & Liverpool Squad Analysis

West Ham boss David Moyes seems to be in charge of his last few games as West Ham manager. Rumors are circulating that the ex-Everton boss will be replaced at the end of the season. That seems staggering considering West Ham are comfortably in the top half once again. They also won a European trophy last season, and reached the Europa League quarter-finals this year. Moyes will be without youngster George Earthy who is still in concussion protocols, while three players are rated 50/50 for the Liverpool game. Central defenders Konstantinos Mavropanos and Nayef Aguerd will both be assessed before the game. Jarrod Bowen played in midweek in the heavy defeat at Crystal Palace, but only did so with a painkilling injection. He is another who will be assessed in the run up to the game.

Outgoing Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp saw his teams' title hopes nosedive in their 2-0 defeat at Everton in midweek. Cody Gakpo missed the Everton game as his wife was expected to give birth, but could return against West Ham. However Diogo Jota will be absent after tweaking his hip in the game against Fulham. Conor Bradley is still a couple of weeks away from a return, while Thiago and Joel Matip are out for the rest of the season. Young midfielder Stefan Bajcetic returned to action, playing 60 minutes for the academy team in midweek and could be in contention for a place on the bench, which would be a first involvement in the Premier League for him this season after missing the entire season through injury so far.

Our West Ham vs Liverpool Prediction

Neither of West Ham or Liverpool come into this game in particularly good form and the data for both teams is extremely inconsistent in terms of a results-based prediction. However, there is one consistency across both teams and which has been the case for most of the season and that is in the majority of games for these two teams, both teams score. Therefore, our West Ham v Liverpool prediction is for both teams to find the net in this game.

West Ham vs Liverpool - Other Interesting Predictions

West Ham United to Score First

Liverpool have conceded the first goal twice in their last three Premier League games, and in 15 EPL games in total this season. A shocking stat for a team that has lost just four games in the league this season. The Hammers have conceded the first goal 16 times this season, but just six of those were at home where they found the net first in ten games. Against a slow-starting Liverpool, still reeling from the midweek defeat at Goodison Park to Everton, they look a good bet to score first again. Our second prediction for West Ham v Liverpool is for the home side to score first.
