West Ham United will return to Premier League action after European duties, hosting Burnley in Round 27. They arrive for the game sitting seventh in the standings, 29 points clear of second from bottom Burnley. West Ham are coming off a 1-0 defeat away to Freiburg in the first leg of the two teams’ round of 16 Europa League tie. A bad way to start the tie but they will seek to build up momentum for the second leg next week with a win here. David Moyes’ men have won their last two league games so will be confident of bouncing back here. The London club hadn’t won at all in 2024 up until a 4-2 victory against city rivals Brentford two weeks ago. This propelled them to another huge win, a 3-1 success away to Everton last weekend. The two wins have them right back in the picture for a place in Europe next season. West Ham have amassed 42 points and are two points from the top six and eight from the top five. They haven’t lost to Burnley in five meetings and won the reverse match back in November 2-1.

With each passing Match Day, Burnley have looked more and more destined for a return to the Championship. Vincent Kompany’s men are in 19th place having accumulated just 13 points after 27 matches. They have managed just three wins and lost a league-leading 20 matches. This has left them 11 points from safety with 11 matches left to play. The Clarets haven’t won in 10 outings and their last victory came last December, two days before Christmas. In their 10-game winless run, they have lost eight times and are currently on a four-match skid. They have failed to score in their last three games and have conceded 10 times in those matches. Ahead of this game, Burnley were defeated 2-0 at home by another struggling side, Bournemouth.
