West Ham vs Brentford Prediction & Betting Tips - Premier League

by Ian John | in Premier League Prediction

West Ham United face Brentford in the Premier League on Monday evening with both sides in desperate need of a result to halt an alarming slide in form. The Hammers have lost all their last three in the Premier League and failed to score in any of those three matches, conceding 11 goals in the process. A run of results which leaves them 9th in the table. Brentford have won just two of their last 11 Premier League games, losing the others including Tuesday night's 1-0 defeat to Manchester City. The Bees now lie 14th in the table, just five points clear of the relegation zone.

West Ham - Brentford: Form Analysis

David Moyes finds himself under real pressure as West Ham boss after an awful run of results in the Premier League has followed from their FA Cup exit at the hands of Bristol City. The Hammers have drawn three and lost three of their last six games, in that order, and that has seen them drop down the table to ninth. Following successive wins over Manchester United and Arsenal, the Hammers have failed to win a game and have scored just four goals in eight games in that run, conceding 16. They have drawn a blank in their last three Premier League games and it is clear that injuries to Lucas Paqueta and Michail Antonio have really hurt the attacking threat possessed by the team. Oddly, their form over the last nine Premier League games has followed a pattern of three wins, three draws and then three defeats. David Moyes will be hoping that is the end of the pattern and a new one begins with a win over Brentford on Monday.

Thomas Frank's Brentford team are another who are in the middle of a poor run. They have landed just two wins in their last 11 games scoring 13 goals but letting in 25. Only two games in that run have not seen both teams score and the only clean sheet the Bees have kept in their last 15 games was in a 2-0 win at Wolves on February 10th. Oddly, their home form has been the poorest, losing successuve gome games 2-1, 4-1, 3-1 and 4-1 against Aston Villa, Wolves, Manchester City and Liverpool. Away from home they pushed Tottenham and Manchester City hard but ultimately lost the game but did win at Wolves in a solid showing. A draw seems long overdue for the Bees - their last draw a 1-1 away point earned at Nottingham Forest on October 1st 2023.

West Ham & Brentford Squad Analysis

West Ham have had some good news on the injury front with Lucas Paqueta rated as being in contention for a return to the team on Monday. The Brazilian midfielder, believed to be a target for Manchester City, is due to take a late fitness test before Monday's game to ascertain if he is fit enough to play a part. On loan midfielder Kalvin Phillips will miss out though after his sending off in the loss to Nottingham Forest means he will be suspended from this game. Michail Antonio showed no adverse affects after his return to the team in the loss at the City Ground last weekend and he is also available for the Hammers on Monday. Ghana star Mohamed Kudus has been one of the Hammers star performers this season and many fans will be keen to see him link up with Paqueta, Bowen and Antonio once again.

Thomas Frank has a lengthy injury list ahead of the game with West Ham United. Ethan Pinnock's ankle injury will keep him out until after the international break, while Josh Dasilva, Rico Henry, Kevin Schade, Aaron Hickey and Bryan Mbuemo are all injured and will not feature against the Hammers. After the 1-0 loss to Manchester City in midweek Thomas Frank could elect to recall striker Neal Maupay to the team if he feels he needs more firepower against an out of sorts West Ham. Ivan Toney's return to the team from suspension has given the Bees added firepower in attack and he has already found the net several times since his return. The Bees will need to keep him sharp in front of goal if they are to turn around this poor run of form.

West Ham - Brentford Key Points

  1. West Ham have won two, drawn two and lost one of their last five home Premier League games. Scoring 6 goals and conceding 7 in that run.
  2. Brentford have lost six of their last seven away games, winning just once (2-0 at Wolves). They have scored just 6 goals in those games, conceding 13.
  3. Both teams have scored in seven of Brentford's last nine games in the Premier League. However, for West Ham, both teams have scored in just two of their last 10 games in the Premier League.
  4. West Ham have not won in any of their last six Premier League games. Brentford have lost 9 of their last 11 Premier League games, winning two.
  5. Brentford were 3-2 winners when the teams met earlier in the season, coming back from a 2-1 half time deficit to win the game 3-2 at the Brentford Community Stadium.

Our West Ham vs Brentford Prediction

With both sides out of sorts, West Ham vs Brentford is a tricky one to call. I feel both managers will approach the game as one that they very much cannot afford to lose, rather than one that they feel they can win. Of the two teams, it is Brentford who have played better recently, but they haven't picked up the results to go with their performances and that is a real worry. West Ham's performances have been very poor of late but Paqueta's imminent return should help that. This will be tight and edgy, hence our West Ham v Brentford prediction is for a draw.

West Ham vs Brentford - Other Interesting Predictions

Total Goals Exact - 2

We have seen in their recent form that Brentford games usually sees both teams score (64% of their games this season have done so), while that figure is 60% for West Ham despite their recent lack of goals. At home, and with Paqueta back, West Ham should score one, but I think Brentford will also grab a goal here, so our other prediction for West Ham v Brentford is for a total goals number of 2 in this game.

Unfortunately for West Ham fans, they have never beaten Brentford in a Premier League match. Their last win, a 1-0 win at the Brentford Community Stadium, was in the FA Cup back in January 2023.

In the five Premier League games played between the two since Brentford were promoted, the Bees have won all five. Three of those by a 2-0 scoreline, one a 2-1 victory and most recently the 3-2 win they achieved over the Hammers back in November 2023.

In fact West Ham's last win against Brentford in the league came in what is now the Championship back in 1993, when the Hammers won 4-0 at Upton Park.
