West Brom and Preston have hit poor form at the wrong time of the season. The home side have lost all their last three games, when one win would have secured them a playoff spot. As such, West Brom have opened the door for Hull City to potentially beat them to that final spot in the playoffs. Carlos Corberan’s team do have a much better goal difference over Hull. But they still need at least a point here to almost certainly clinch a spot in the playoffs (and three to be mathematically certain). Corberan’s team were well-beaten last week, losing 3-0 away to Sheffield Wednesday. However, they have good memories of facing Preston, having beaten the Lilywhites 4-0 when they played away at Deepdale earlier this season.

Preston boss Ryan Lowe will be furious at his side’s poor finish to the season. Four straight defeats has not only ruled them out of the playoffs, it has seen them drop to 10th in the table. They could finish as low as 12th if results go against them this weekend. It is abundantly clear where Preston’s issues lie. Aside from a 4-1 win over Huddersfield Town in April, Preston have failed to score in six of their last seven games. That includes their most recent 3-0 defeat to Leicester on Monday night last week which saw the visitors confirmed as Champions. However, the pressure is all on the home side in this game and Preston will hope to take advantage of that.
