Watford will have another chance to enhance their promotion hopes when they host fellow promotion hopefuls Reading in the 41st round of matches in the Championship. They are placed second in the Championship standings with 79 points, 13 ahead of sixth placed Reading. Watford failed to take full advantage of Norwich’s slip ups in recent matches when they drew 1-1 with Middlesbrough in the last game. Still, they stay eight points below Norwich but are comfortable in second, being nine points ahead of third placed Brentford and can make moves to secure the automatic promotion position. They have the best run in recent times and go to this clash unbeaten in the last seven matches, with six wins in there. One loss and 10 wins in 13 Championship matches will sure give them the lift needed to handle another promotion candidate and six straight wins with five clean sheets makes it even better. Watford are the best performing home team in the Championship with a winning rate of 80%. They have 16 wins in the 20 home matches played and have bagged 50 of the available 60 points at home.

Reading’s push for a return to the Premier League has taken a few hits here and there and going by the way they started the campaign, it hasn’t been all good lately. They’ll be eyeing a double over Watford after the 1-0 win in October but they aren’t in the best shape, having won just one of their last five matches. That win came in their last game, a 3-1 victory at home to Derby County. For the fifth straight game, they failed to keep a clean sheet while they scored more than one goal for the first time in five matches. They’ve also conceded more than a goal in just one of the last five matches. As they gun for three points, Reading will pin a lot of hopes in the attacking duo of Yakou Meite, who has three goals in the last five matches, and Lucas Joao, the team’s lead scorer this season. Joao scored his first goal in five matches in the win over Derby and will be hoping that touch stays on for this game and more to come. Their away form is however not the best, with three straight winless outings and just seven wins in 20 away league matches. Reading have a 35% winning rate away from home, and have collected just 29 of a possible 60 points.
