Wales will target returning to winning ways as they host Japan in the second Test of their Autumn Internationals on Saturday. Can Steve Tandy's side overcome Japan to bounce back after their opening defeat to Argentina? Here is our prediction.
Wales got off to a disappointing start to their Autumn Nations Series on Sunday against Argentina. They trailed in both halves, eventually falling 52-28 to the World No. 6 in front of the Cardiff crowd.
Notably, Steve Tandy's side’s defeat to Argentina on Sunday was no surprise. Prior to the match, they had lost 18 of their previous 19 Test matches, dating back to 2023. This includes a prolonged 18-game losing streak which was finally broken with a 33-22 victory over Japan in July this year. Four of their last five Tests have ended with over 52 total points.
Japan have yet to recover from their 2025 Pacific Nations Cup final defeat to Fiji. They have lost their next three Tests since then, extending their losing run to four. The most recent was a 41-10 defeat to Ireland in Dublin over the weekend. Notably, six of their last seven Tests have crossed the 52.5 total points benchmark. This includes five of their last six away matches.
