Wales’ quest for a third World Cup appearance ended in disappointment, and they can only line up friendly matches against teams heading to the global event. They are set for one against Ghana this Tuesday at the Cardiff City Stadium. Ghana are on a very poor run, coming here on five straight defeats, and our prediction here will back Wales to extend that.

This will only be the fourth time in the last five years that Wales face a nation from outside Europe. In the three earlier matches against such opponents, Wales failed to score but only lost once. A 2-0 loss to Iran is sandwiched by 0-0 draws against Korea and the USA. Ghana have faced more opponents from outside Africa at around the same period.

Between December 2022 and now, the African giants have faced nine opponents from outside Africa and only beat Trinidad & Tobago 4-0. While they scored in each of their last three meetings against European nations, Ghana lost all, conceding 10 goals and scoring four. Let’s have a look at the preview.

Wales - Ghana: Form Analysis

Wales haven’t been really inspiring lately, and they come here under pressure to get back to winning ways. In their latest outing they drew 1-1 with Northern Ireland.

That was a more welcome outcome than their earlier 1-1 draw with Bosnia & Herzegovina, which sent them to penalties and out of the World Cup qualifiers.

Wales haven’t lost in 90 minutes across their last four matches but will be concerned that they managed just one clean sheet in the process. In their latest five matches, Wales didn’t fail to score once. In terms of goals, though, they failed to score in all three.

Wales sits 37 places ahead of Ghana in the FIFA world rankings.

Ghana are coming into this encounter desperate to stop a sad run where they’ve lost five straight matches. In their latest outing they even lost their scoring touch, falling to a 2-0 defeat against Mexico.

That was also the fourth time in five matches that the Black Stars conceded two or more goals. Before meeting Mexico, Ghana had visited Europe and Asia for friendly matches, which yielded losses.

In Europe, Ghana suffered a 2-1 loss to Germany after having earlier lost 5-1 against Austria. The Black Stars haven’t only struggled against European nations, but their form is just poor when up against non-African teams. This form has to be corrected before heading to the World Cup, where they feature in Group L to face England, Panama, and Croatia.

Wales & Ghana Squad Analysis

The Welsh have mixed news on squad availability ahead of this encounter. The European nation will be without Fulham forward Harry Wilson, one of their most in-form players at the moment. With Wison out, manager Craig Bellamy will be scratching his head on who to name as a replacement.

Among his options are David Brooks, Nathan Broadhead, Lewis Koumas, or Sorba Thomas. On a more positive footing, after lengthy injury layouts, Ben Davies and Connor Roberts are back. The returnees may start from the bench.

Ghana have lost each of their last three against European sides.

Ghana will pin most of their hopes on Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo. The Ghanaian will be a straightaway starter. He should take up Ermest Nuamah’s position in the starting team. Nuamah himself is coming off an injury, which gives the coach an easy decision to make.

Meanwhile, Baba Abdul Rahman is back in the team and will easily slot into the back four, playing in the left back position. Their attack could carry the team, as Jordan Ayew and Inaki Williams will handle the Welsh defenders.

Wales - Ghana Key Points

  1. Ghana have lost five straight matches ahead of this.
  2. Ghana lost each of their last three matches against European sides.
  3. In their last nine matches against non-African teams, Ghana lost seven times.
  4. Wales have posted two wins in their last four matches.
  5. At home, Wales have posted five wins in the last nine.

Our Wales vs Ghana Prediction

Ghana have been in lackluster form, especially when playing against nations from outside Africa. In their last nine such matches, they lost eight. Ghana have also suffered straight defeats against European sides in the last three meetings.

While Wales haven’t been at their best either, Ghana’s stats do not reflect that of a side to trouble them at home. Wales have nothing to play for, unlike Ghana who are preparing for the World Cup. Ghana might restrain themselves here to avoid injuries, and thus our prediction for Wales v Ghana is that Wales wins.

Wales vs Ghana Alternative Predictions

BTTS

Odds 1.91

In their three latest matches against European sides, Ghana lost but didn’t fail to score. They have lost by an aggregate 10-4 in those three matches. Struggling for clean sheets is not unique to just Ghana; Wales have also failed to keep one in the last five home matches. In that process, they failed to score once. Going by such numbers, our second prediction is BTTS.
