Vitaliy Sachko is having a career-defining tournament in Metz. The Ukrainian, before this week, had never won a match at a tour event; now he is just two wins away from the title.

Playing in the main draw as a lucky loser following elimination in the qualifiers, Sachko has had some stunning results. One of those was a second-round victory over the tournament’s highly favored third seed, Alexander Bublik.

The 28-year-old, who has shot up a massive 59 places to 163rd in the live ranking, defeated Clement Tabur in three sets in the quarters.

Learner Tien prevailed in a tense quarter-final clash with Matteo Berrettini, winning in three sets after conceding the first. As a result, the American, who is having a breakout year, will contest his second semi-final of 2025.

Tien has registered 37 victories this season competing, almost extensively, at tour level. He has produced some fine performances, with the highlight being a runner-up finish in Beijing.

This was the first time in his career he had contested a tour final. Tien, who also has a fourth-round finish in Melbourne to fondly look back on, has moved up to 35th in the live ranking.
