Qualifier Valentin Vacherot has had a great run in Shanghai. He faces 20th seed Tomas Machac in round three of this outdoor hard court Masters tournament. Can the qualifier defeat the seed? Time for our match prediction.

The last rankings had Vacherot in 204th position.  Both his qualifiers saw him come from a set down. Since then the 24-year-old has defeated Laslo Djere and then the 14th seed Alexander Bublik, again coming from a set down.

Those four wins have taken Vacherot eight-and-a-half hours. He's up to 166th in the live rankings. 

The winner of this match will be up against either second seed Jannik Sinner  (the highest in the draw) or 27th-seeded Tallon Griekspoor in the last 16.

Tomas Machac was a semi-finalist in this tournament last year. He's 28th in the live rankings, five below his position in the last published list. He lost to Sinner in last year's semi-final so would love a chance of revenge if they meet in round four.

The 24-year-old has won one ATP Tour hard court title in 2025, lifting the trophy in Acapulco. He's won 18 of his 27 matches played on this surface in 2025. So far in this tournament, he's defeated Matta Bellucci in straight sets. We tip him to do the same to Vacherot.
