The United States Men’s national team (USMNT) faces off against Trinidad & Tobago for the first leg of this CONCACAF Nations League quarter-final. The winner of this tie will go on to play either Canada or Jamaica in the semi-final. The USA are seeking their third consecutive Nations League crown after winning the inaugural competition in 2019/20 and defending their title in 2022/23. The Stars and Stripes didn’t have to worry about passing through the group stage as they (along with Mexico, Canada and Costa Rica) received an automatic bye into the quarter-finals. Following their Gold Cup semi-final defeat to Panama with the B squad in July, the USMNT has responded by winning three of four friendlies. Their most recent outing was a comfortable 4-0 win over Ghana back in October. They have the home field advantage in this first leg with the match taking place at the Q2 Arena in Austin.

Trinidad & Tobago come into this quarter-final as overwhelming underdogs against the defending champions. The Soca Warriors had a strong group stage where they finished second in League A Group A with three wins and one defeat. They managed a 1-0 home win over Curacao to kick off the group before two straight 3-2 wins over El Salvador and Guatemala to secure their spot. Trinidad, who sit 99th in the FIFA world rankings, suffered a heavy 5-3 away defeat to Curacao to close out the group stage. The loss means that Trinidad have now had three wins and three losses in their last six competitive fixtures overall. During that stretch, they won only once away from home while losing three times and conceded 15 goals. One of those losses was a 6-0 demolition suffered to the United States in the Gold Cup back in July of this year.
