14th seed Ugo Humbert takes on unseeded Botic van de Zandschulp in the Miami Open second round. The winner goes into the last 32 where they'll face either 18th seed Sebastian Baez or unseeded Dominik Koepfer. Humbert has only once reached the third round of this outdoor hard court Masters event. That was in 2021 but the following two appearances have seen him lose at this stage. The Frenchman has won two ATP Tour hard court titles this year. That's taken him up to a career high ranking and he's eighth in the Live ATP Race. His latest tournament was at Indian Wells where he lost in the last 32 to Tommy Paul. That was his first tournament since winning the outdoor hard court title in Dubai. He'd earlier won the indoor event held in Marseille.

To make it into round three, Botic van de Zandschulp must beat Ugo Humbert for the first time. They've met on two previous occasions with the most recently being in Shanghai last year (outdoor hard court) with Humbert winning in three sets. The other was seven years ago and played on clay. Van de Zandschulp was ranked 77th when this tournament got underway. That's way below the 22nd place he held two years ago. The Dutch player has had an inconsistent year and his loss to Denis Shapovalov in the Indian Wells first round was his fourth in five matches. The first round in Miami saw him beat Rinky Hijikata in straight sets but it took nearly two hours to get the win. We tip Humbert to win this in straight sets.
