Twente will take on Hammarby IF in the first leg of the second round in the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers on Thursday. The winners of this tie will face either Kecskemeti TE or Riga FC in the next round. The hosts finished in fifth place last season but qualified for this competition owing to PSV winning the domestic cup and finishing second. Twente managed 64 points last season, three behind AZ in fourth and 18 off the league winners Feyenoord. They managed a total of 18 wins, ten draws, and six losses across the season. Twente finished the league season very well, going nine games unbeaten in the final stretch of the season. They also played three preseason games ahead of this match and won two while drawing the most recent 2-2 against Schalke 04. Their biggest strength last season was their home form, where they were unbeaten in the last nine games of the campaign and come into this match on a six-match winning streak in all competitions. Twente were knocked out in the playoff round of this competition last year and will be determined to make it to the main draw this time around. 

After a couple of disappointing seasons, Hammarby fought their way back into the top three sides in Allsvenskan last season. They finished just one point behind Djurgarden in second and eight off Hacken at the top. However, this season has been a completely different story as they find themselves in ninth place in the league with half the season already complete. After 17 games, Hammarby have only managed 22 points with six wins, four draws, and seven losses, already 13 points behind the top three. The visitors were beaten 1-0 by Brommapojkarna last week, which was their second loss in their last four matches, along with two wins. Their away record, though, is very poor and reads as two wins, three draws, and seven losses in 12 matches this term. We expect that they will find it very difficult in this one.
