Sweden take on Turkey in a vital match in Group A of the 2024 Women's European Handball Championships. The Swedes are second after two games with a couple of points, one ahead of third-placed Turkey. Here's our match prediction.
The Swedes began this tournament with a comfortable 28-18 win over North Macedonia. They then lost to group leaders (and co-hosts) Hungary by a seven-goal margin. Avoiding defeat here will confirm their place in the main round but with no points carried through.
Sweden won the bronze at this year's Paris Olympics and finished fifth in the last Euros held two years ago. They had won five matches in a row before the loss to Hungary.
Turkey have to win this match if they want to make it into the main round. They lost to Hungary in their opening group match and then took on North Macedonia on Saturday. The Turks led by three goals at the break but ended up drawing the match 25-25.
They have never played in the World Championship finals and this is their debut in this stage of the European Championships. Turkey had lost eight successive matches before drawing with North Macedonia. We tip Sweden to win this on a -9.5 goals handicap.
