Trabzonspor are set to host newly-promoted Kocaelispor at the Papara Park on matchday one in the Turkish Super Lig. Here's our match prediction.
Trabzonspor finished in seventh place in the 2024-25 Turkish Super Lig season despite signs pointing towards a bottom-half finish. They needed just three points to overthrow Istanbul Basaksehir in fifth for a European football spot.
The Black Sea Storm also had the opportunity to end the season with silverware as consolation for their dismal campaign. However, a convincing 3-0 defeat at the hands of Galatasaray in the Turkish Cup final crushed such hopes.
In preparation for the current campaign, the team led by head coach Fatih Tekke had to navigate five preseason games. It was a poor start at first, but they finished strongly with a three-match unbeaten run. Their recent match was a 3-1 away win against Umraniyespor.
Kocaelispor won promotion to the Turkish Super Lig by winning the TFF 1. Lig trophy last season. It was a historic moment for everyone associated with the club as this is their first appearance in the top flight since 2009.
The Gulf have not been very active during preseason, but they did play two games. Their first match was against Adana Demirspor, and they won 5-0. Using that result as a springboard, they beat Wydad Casablanca 2-0 in the following match.
