Tour de France - Stage 20 Predictions & Betting tips - Tour de France
by Matthew Newman |
There are a few lumps and bumps along the 184.2km route from Nantua to Pontarlier for Stage 20 of the Tour de France. This looks too tough for the sprinters who will keep their powder dry for the arrival in Paris on Sunday. A breakaway looks the way to go for our prediction.
This sort of terrain is made for Wout van Aert. He came home with the sprinters on Stage 19, perhaps indicative that he did not want to waste what little is left in the legs so late in the race. This is much more likely to suit him.
Romain Grégoire is a man we put up earlier in the tour on a similar stage, though he was dropped late on. Although there is plenty of climbing here, most of it is nothing like as challenging as recent days, which brings him right into contention.
Plenty of power is required here, and few have more of that than USA champion Quinn Simmons. He has been in four breaks, including a pair of top 10 finishes, grabbing the runner-up spot in one of those.
Others to consider are regular attacker Julian Alaphillipe, powerful riders like Tim Wellens, Victor Campenaerts and Axel Laurance, as well as the man riding his final Tour de France, Geraint Thomas.

- Wout van Aert was so quiet on Stage 19, not looking to make much of an effort, that has to suggest he has either today or the final stage in Paris in mind.
