Ugo Humbert aims to continue his excellent form in 2024. The 14th seed faces Tommy Paul who is seeded 17th in this Indian Wells outdoor hard court tournament. The winner of this match will be up against either top seed Novak Djokovic or lucky loser Luca Nardi in the last 16. Humbert has already won two hard court titles this year. One was indoors in Marseille, the other in the outdoor Dubai Tennis Championships. 14 of his 17 matches have been won this year and he's up to 14th in the live rankings. In the Live ATP Race, the Frenchman is currently in seventh position. He beat Patrick Kypson in straight sets in the second round of this Masters 1000 event. He's in the third round here for the second year in a row but has never got any further.

Tommy Paul has made it to the fourth round of this tournament twice in the last three years. That's his best performance at Indian Wells but he has won one outdoor hard court title in 2024. That came in Dallas and then he got to the title decider in Delray Beach. Paul is still at 17th in the live list and 14th in the Live Race. He beat Alex Michelsen in round two of this tournament and only dropped four games in doing so. The American leads Humbert 2-0 in previous meetings but this is only their second match since 2018.
