Jannik Sinner is the second seed in the men's singles at Eastbourne. He had a first round bye and now takes on unseeded American Tommy Paul. A win for the Italian will be a special one indeed. You see, he may ell be the world number 13 but he has never won a main draw match in an ATP grass court event. Sinner has won two qualifying matches on this surface but that's all. Two Wimbledon appearances have seen him lose in the first qualifying round and then the first round. He's reached five quarter finals this year but none of those were played on grass. This is his first match since Roland Garros. One previous match against Paul was played in Madrid this year on clay. Sinner won that in three sets and there were two tie-breaks played.

Tommy Paul began this week ranked 35th and that should see him seeded at Wimbledon due to the player ban. This is his third grass court event of the season and last week saw him get to the quarter finals at Queen's Club. That included a wins over Denis Shapovalov and Stan Wawrinka. His best performance this year was getting to the last four at Delray Beach and he's reached three other quarter finals. The first round in Eastbourne saw him come from behind to beat Franciso Cerundolo. His record on this surface is much better than that of his opponent, go for him to win and face either sixth seeded Alex de Minaur or Lorenzo Sonego in the next round.
