The 2023 PBA Governors’ Cup Finals enters game two with TNT Tropang looking to bounce back against Barangay Ginebra when the two sides face off at the Smart Araneta Arena on Wednesday. The defending champions Barangay Ginebra were able to score an early knockdown on their opponents as they ran out 102-90 victors in game one of this seven game series. The win means the Gin Kings have yet to lose on this postseason run, winning a perfect five games from five following their 3-0 sweep of the Beermen in the semi finals. On the other side, TNT face a desperation spot as going down 2-0 to a team with the championship pedigree of Ginebra could wind up being a death sentence. TNT advanced to the finals following a 3-1 semi final victory over Meralco. 

TNT suffered from a poor shooting night in the first game of this heavyweight matchup. Star import Rondae Hollis-Jefferson showed up with a  typical dominant type of performance, dropping 30 points, grabbing 20 boards and dishing out five assists. Unfortunately for the former first-round NBA draft pick, TNT as a collective shot only 38.9% from the field and only 25.7% from downtown. Head coach Jojo Lasitmosa stated that he hopes his team can shoot better from the field in the second meeting and the signs throughout the season point towards that being the case. Tropang finished as the league’s highest scoring team in the regular season with a total of 1,290 points scored in 11 regular season contests. 

A win in this game would put Barangay Ginebra one stop closer to extending their historic dominance over this competition in recent seasons. The Kings are gunning for their third consecutive title in the Governors’ Cup and their fifth title in the previous seven championships. It’s safe to say the Barangay dynasty is still in full effect, especially with the legendary Justin Brownlee leading the way. Brownlee delivered once again in game one, leading all scorers with 31 points while also grabbing 12 boards.
