Third seed Taylor Fritz takes on unseeded Thiago Monteiro in the second round of the Eastbourne Invitational. The winner of this match will face either Alexander Bublik or qualifier John Millman in the third rounHid. Fritz is world ranked 14th and received a bye in the first round. He's a former champion in Eastbourne, having beaten Sam Querrey in 2019 to win the title. His 2022 grass court season hasn't gone too well so far. He lost in his first match in the Netherlands to Tim van Rijthoven, who went on to win the title. Last week he lost at Queen's Club in his frist match to rising British player Jack Draper. Fritz has a best performance of the third round at Wimbledon.

Thiago Monteiro started this week ranked 94th in the world. This is his first grass tournament of the year and he hasn't got a great record on this surface. Five times at Wimbledon have seen him lose in the first qualifying round twice and three main draw appearances have only produced one win. He's much better on clay and got to the quarter finals in Belgrade. The first round of this tournament saw him defeat Ugo Humbert. He had to come from a set down to get that victory.
