The clay season is still proving problematic for Taylor Fritz, even as the American enters the Geneva Open as the top seed. He will, in the second round, face off with Frenchman Quentin Halys. This match marks the first meeting between the two players, and we have a prediction for it below.

Fritz got a first-round bye courtesy of his high rank. The world number four will want to use that as a springboard to recover from back-to-back defeats at the Madrid and Rome Masters.

In his four clay matches this season, Fritz has compiled a 2-2 record, and overall he is on 16-8 and will hope to do better on clay. 

As he takes on an opponent who hasn’t done well in the season, Fritz can afford some optimism. Halys overcame Jaume Munar in three sets in the opening round, recovering from losing the opening set.

With that win, the Frenchman’s record for the season improved to 12-12. Halys is, however, still on a losing run on clay, having won just two of six matches thus far.

In a match pitting two players on tough runs, he will be confident of upsetting a top-5 player. In his last three meetings with top-10 players, the World No. 50 suffered straight defeats.
