It’s been a week of surprises in both the men’s and women’s singles events in Eastbourne. The ATP final sees lucky loser Jenson Brooksby face.the top seed and defending champion Taylor Fritz. Here’s our match prediction.
World number five Fritz has won this grass court title a record three times. It's not been an easy route to this final for the 27-year-old. Each of his three matches against Jaoa Fonseca, Marcos Giron and Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina have gone to a final set.
In those three matches, Fritz has dropped the second set in the match. This is the third match between the two players and they are 1-1. Both matches were played in Grand Slams and it was back in 2021 that Brooksby got his win.
Brooksby was beaten by Aleksandar Vukic in his second qualifying match. His tournament wasn’t over though as he was reinstated as a lucky loser. Since then, the world number 149 has won four matches and risen to 101st in the live rankings.
The 24-year-old has beaten two seeded players this week. Eighth-seed Nuno Borges was defeated in round two and then fourth-seeded Ugo Humbert in Friday’s semi-final. Brooksby had to come from a set down to reach his second grass court final and first in four years.
