After two and a half months, the PSL returns this week with Supersport United taking on Stellenbosch on Friday evening. The hosts are third in the league standings, while the visitors are fourth. The race for the top three is red hot this season and this could be a crucial match with just three points separating these two sides. Supersport United are currently on 29 points, level with second-placed Cape Town City, while Sundowns have opened up a nine-point lead over the rest. Before the AFCON break, Matsatsantsa suffered an unexpected 3-1 loss against relegation candidates Richards Bay that halted a three-match win streak in all competitions. At home, the hosts have a record of five wins and two losses in seven games. They also beat this opponent in the reverse fixture back in August and are the favourites heading into this one. 

Meanwhile, Stellenbosch will be looking to pick up where they left off before the international break. Their last match before New Year ended in a 3-2 win over Orlando Pirates, where they showed tremendous fighting spirit, coming from 2-0 down to claim all three points. That result also extended their record to four league wins in a row and seven matches unbeaten, including six wins and a draw. After managing just four points from their first four away games this season, Stellies' uptick in form has helped them remain unbeaten in their last four, winning three and drawing one. However, the visitors have not beaten this opponent in their last six league encounters, which sees them enter the match as the underdogs.
