The final curtain on Matchday 24 of the Premier League comes from the Stadium of Light, where Sunderland will be playing host to fellow newly-promoted outfit Burnley on Monday night. The Black Cats are 11th in the league standings, while the Clarets are in 19th place after 23 games. Check out our match prediction below!
Regis Le Bris’ side have defied all expectations this season, currently on 33 points after 23 matches and 13 points clear of the drop. They are the clear favourites of the newly-promoted teams to avoid relegation this season, and they are still only four points behind Chelsea in the Europa League qualification spot.
Despite winning the EFL Championship last season, Scott Parker’s team are the worst-performing of the newly promoted sides this season. With only 15 points to date, the Clarets are 10 points from safety and need a massive end to the season if they are to avoid returning to the second tier. Let's get into the key stats!

Sunderland - Burnley: Form Analysis
Sunderland dropped out of the top half of the EPL standings last weekend when they conceded three first-half goals to relegation candidates West Ham United and ended up losing the match 3-1.
Despite that loss, the Black Cats have still only conceded 26 goals this season, a record only bettered by four of the top five teams in the division - Arsenal (17), Man City (21), Aston Villa (25) and Chelsea (25).
The hosts’ greatest strength this season has been their record at the Stadium of Light, where they have yet to taste defeat in the top flight this term, winning six and drawing five of their 11 matches.
Sunderland is the only team in the EPL with an unbeaten home record this season!
Meanwhile, Burnley have shown in recent weeks that even if they do suffer the drop, they will not go down without a fight. In their last three games, they have held Man United, Liverpool and Spurs to draws.
However, if the Clarets are to remain in the top flight, they will need to improve defensively. They have shipped 44 goals this term - the second most in the league - and have only kept one clean sheet in their last 15 EPL matches.
The visitors have been very poor on the road this season, earning just five points from 11 away games (W1 D2 L8). Their only away win this season came against basement club Wolves in late October.

Sunderland & Burnley Squad Analysis
Brian Brobbey is enjoying his best run of form since arriving at Wearside, having scored three goals in his last four league matches, including the winner against Palace and an equaliser against Spurs this month.
Granit Xhaka has been immense for the Black Cats this season and was sorely missed in their defeat to the Hammers last week. Le Bris confirmed this week that the team’s skipper will remain sidelined for at least another three weeks.
Reinildo Mandava and Romaine Mundle both started the last match but are expected to make way for Chemsdine Talbi and Dennis Cirkin this week. Bertrand Traore is the only other injury absentee for the hosts.
Nordi Mukiele has provided assists in each of his last two games!
After an impressive Africa Cup of Nations campaign for South Africa, Lyle Foster came off the bench to score the second goal against Tottenham last week and could return to the starting lineup in place of Armando Broja this weekend.
Jaidon Anthony has failed to score in his last 10 starts for the Clarets, but he is still the team’s top scorer this season and notched up an assist and a goal in the reverse fixture back in August.
The visitors have several players sidelined through injury at present, including Mike Tresor, Zian Flemming, Joe Worrall, Jordan Beyer, Connor Roberts and Zeki Amdouni for this match.
