Stuttgart and Celtic clash at the Mercedes-Benz Arena for the return leg of the UEFA Europa League knockout round playoff. A spot in the round of 16 against either Braga or Porto is on the line. Will the Bhoys be able to pull off the unlikeliest of comebacks down 4-1 or will Die Roten be able to see it out in front of the home fans? Check out our match prediction below!
Stuttgart are on the verge of making the round of 16 for only the second time in their history in the Europa League. After a tough start in the league phase, they managed to turn things around to ultimately finish 11th, losing out on a top-eight spot by a single point.
It’s been a difficult season for Celtic, who are losing their grip on the Scottish Premiership. There hasn’t been much respite in Europe and they needed a victory on the final matchday to squeeze into a knockout round position in 21st place. The last time that Celtic made it to the round of 16 in this competition was the 2003-04 season, when it was referred to as the UEFA Cup.

Stuttgart - Celtic: Form Analysis
The first leg saw Stuttgart storm to a 4-1 away victory at Celtic Park. The Germans were ruthless with their chances as they created 1.88 expected goals and three clear cut chances.
It continued what has been a very solid run of form for Stuttgart, who have now lost just once in their last eight across all competitions, winning six. Last time out, they were able to rescue a point late in a thrilling 3-3 away draw with Heidenheim thanks to an 88th minute goal by Deniz Undav.
Stuttgart finished as the highest-scoring home team in the UEL league stage with 11 goals.
Stuttgart were one of the most polarising teams in the league phase in respect to their home and away form. They lost three of four away trips, but were ultimately saved by their stellar performances at the Mercedes-Benz Arena, where they won all four of their fixtures.
Celtic suffered a second straight home defeat on Sunday, losing 2-1 to Hibs to pile even more pressure on the team. They’ve now dropped six points behind first-place Hearts, although they have a game in hand.
Overall, the Hoops had previously been on an 10-match unbeaten run following the appointment of Martin O’Neill as interim manager in January. In his 12 matches in charge so far, Celtic have won eight, drawn two and lost two.

Stuttgart & Celtic Squad Analysis
Stuttgart manager Sebastian Hoeneß will be unable to call upon Justin Diehl, Lazar Jovanovic, and Dan-Axel Zagadou, while defender Julian Chabot is suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card. Angelo Stiller is listed as doubtful and his absence will be a difficult one for the hosts.
The 24-year-old is a wonderfully technical deep-lying playmaker who dictates the tempo and is the heartbeat of Die Schwaben. Stiller was forced off in the 78th minute in Saturday’s draw against Heidenheim, with Hoeneß later reporting that it was a ‘significant knock’.
With Stuttgart possessing such a comfortable lead, it would be a surprise if they risk Stiller in this match.
Expect to see a double pivot of Atakan Karazor and Chema Andres if Stiller is unable to go. On the attacking side, Deniz Undav has been outstanding, leading the entire competition in assists with six and tied for the most goal involvements with eight.
For the visitors, they could be without as many as seven players for the trip to Germany. Jota, Carter-Vickers, Engels, Osmand, Johnston and Montgomery make up a lengthy injury list.
Benjamin Nygren has been Celtic’s star man this season after making the move over from Denmark in the summer. The 24-year-old is the team’s leading goalscorer with 18, which includes four in the Europa League. The versatile Swede is on a red-hot run at the moment, finding the net in six of his last eight appearances.

Our Stuttgart vs Celtic Prediction
Both teams created plenty of chances in the first leg and there’s reason to believe we could see something similar in the return leg. Celtic will have to open up and go for it from the very first whistle if they have any hope of turning this around.
This should benefit Stuttgart, who already proved that they have the ability to carve through this Celtic team. With both sides finding the net with consistency as of late, we’ll back this to finish at least 2-1 to either team. Deniz Undav anytime goalscorer
We recommend waiting until the lineups are released before booking this bet, just to confirm that Undav is in the starting lineup. With such a big lead and now playing at home, there is of course a risk that Hoeneß decides to rotate his team. He did come off the bench against Heidenheim on the weekend, which makes it more likely that he returns to the starting 11 here. Undav has found the net in five of his last eight matches and is the team’s leading scorer with 17.
