England take on Spain in the final of the 2023 Women's World Cup on Sunday August 20th. Both countries are playing in the final for the very first time so we'll have a new name on the trophy. It's been a long and eventful journey to the final for these sides. While the players have no experience of such a massive occasion, that's not the case for England coach Sarina Wiegman. This is her second successive Women's World Cup final after taking the Netherlands to the 2019 final but losing to the USA. Wiegman will hope for a better result this time around. The Lionesses will have Lauren James back from suspension and that could be a deciding factor in this final. Not only can the Chelsea player score goals, she sets them up too. Spain have come a very long way in a short amount of time but can they become the world champions? They will want revenge for losing to England in last year's European Championships. What a final we have in store.Limited Offer. Currently at Stake

Spain W - England W: Form Analysis
England are attempting to add the world crown to the European title that they already hold. They had lost two Women's World Cup semi-finals in the past but a 3-1 win over Australia took them into this final. It's the first one that an England side has reached since their men's side won the 1966 World Cup. England began these finals by winning all three matches in their group. They weren't too impressive in beating Haiti (that feels like an age ago) and Denmark but moved up a few gears when beating China 6-1. In the knockout stages they beat Nigeria in a penalty shoot out and then came from behind to beat Colombia 2-1. Both teams have scored in their last two matches and three overall in the competition. The Lionesses are unbeaten in their last eight games and they have only ever lost one match under Sarina Wiegman.
Spain are in only their third Women's World Cup finals having first qualified in 2015. This is the first time that they have made it past the last 16. They won their first two group games against Costa Rica and Zambia but then lost their final match 4-0 to Japan. The Spaniards didn't look world champions on that day. They have improved since then though and beat Switzerland 5-1 in the last 16. The quarter finals saw them overcome the Netherlands and then scored a last gasp goal to secure a win over Sweden in the last four. Their last three games have all seen both teams score with Spain conceding in their last four matches. They have only one loss in their last 12 matches. Against England, Spain lost 2-1 to them in last year's European Championships. In 11 previous games against the Lionesses, they have won twice but lost on six occasions, Both teams got on the scoresheet in six of those matches,

Spain W & England W Squad Analysis
Will England recall Lauren James to their starting line-up? James was in excellent form in the group stages but was then sent off against Nigeria. A two-match ban has been served and the Chelsea player is available for the final. Sarina Wiegman has the massive decison on whether to change a winining team or put James on the bench. Ella Toone has played well in the last two matches and it would be a cruel blow for her to be replaced for this final. Spain have no injury worries ahead of this 2023 Women's World Cup final. If there is any further team news for the 2023 Women's World Cup final then we will update this page.
