Slovan host Olympiacos for their second leg of the third qualifying round of this year’s Europa League.Slovan went to the Karaiskakis stadium mainly to score a goal and keep the tie open for the home replay, yet were extremely competitive, pouncing on the errors of the opposition and securing the draw, while they could have even emerged as winners were they more careful in the final third. The Slovakian outfit have thus lost just once in their last six games, scoring an impressive fifteen goals in the process. While they are on a positive run of form, they do tend to concede with ease, with six of their last eight games seeing both teams score. They also managed to draw last year’s home qualifier against the same opponent, yet were eliminated after losing 3-0 at the away game. 

Olympiacos confirmed in the first leg that they are a team in crisis. The so-called manager bounce did not play out in the game in Athens, where 1-1 is a scoreline that probably leaves the Greeks the more satisfied of the lot. New manager Carlos Corberan will have to deal with an ageing squad that clearly needs refreshing and that can be shown in the team’s recent form. It is indicative that they have won just once in their last nine games, whilst conceding in seven of those. They have also failed to display defensive solidity in this year’s European qualifiers, where they have let in six goals in their three games. The Greek outfit are poor away from home recently, being winless in five but have won their last three competitive outings for the Greek league.
