Brann will host Astana in the two sides’ first leg encounter of the Conference League play-off this Thursday. The two sides are coming off massive wins and will want to build on them. Read on for our preview and prediction of the match.
Norwegian side Brann overcame a hard-fighting St. Mirren in the last round to book their place here. With the 3-1 home win, Brann completed a 4-2 aggregate victory. They followed it with a 4-0 away win at Fredrikstad in their most recent outing.
That was another of their high-scoring matches as Brann hit an unbeaten streak of eight matches. They failed to score in only two of their last 10 matches but managed just three clean sheets. Brann scored 13 times in their last five matches.
Astana, like Brann, are enjoying a strong scoring run. The Kazakhstani side is coming off a 6-1 win against Corvinul Hunedoara.
That victory completed an 8-2 aggregate win but Astana will be concerned that even with the dominance, they couldn’t keep a clean sheet. Having scored 12 goals in their last five matches alone, Astana’s strength heading to Norway is known.
The same way, Grigoriy Babayan is aware of where to improve if he is to take a first leg head-start. In their last 12 matches, the visitors have managed only two clean sheets. With two wins in nine Conference League away matches, this run could also do with some improvement.
